Red-billed Gull (Chroicocephalus scopulinus) (Laridae: Gulls, Terns) Rotorua, New Zealand
The Red billed Gull of New Zealand was previously thought to be a sub-species of Australia's Silver Gull, but is now regarded as a full species, albeit very similar in appearance to its Australian relation. A small gull which is widely distributed around the coast of New Zealand. Filmed here at an unusual inland breeding site, Sulphur Point, Rotorua, where they breed relatively undisturbed in centrally heated comfort on an unstable geothermal area, with all the conveniences of town nearby!
