California Quail (Lophortyx californicus) (Odontophgoridae: New World Quails)

An introduction to New Zealand from western USA and NW Mexico, the California Quail is now common on the North Island and the drier parts of the South Island. Also introduced to Australia, where much less successful, populations are still present on islands in the Bass Strait (between Australia and Tasmania) and Norfolk Island.
