Brown Quail (Coturnix ypsilophora) (Phasianidae: Quail, fowl etc.) (introduced population in NZ)
The Brown Quail is widespread across Australia, except for the most arid areas and moves about the country in response to favourable conditions. At has also been introduced to New Zealand, where it can be found in the northern parts of the North Island. Filmed here on the predator-free island reserve of Tiri Tiri Martangi north of Auckland, where these normally very shy birds are quite confiding. Calls of Tui vimeo.com/113186658 and Hihi vimeo.com/73613550 also can be heard.
