Kaka (Nestor meridionalis, Strigopoidea: New Zealand Parrots) Central North Island, New Zealand
One of my all-time favourate birds, New Zealand's large forest parrot, here filmed high up at home in lofty podocarp forest in the centre of the North Island. Its calls ring through the forest. Seen making good use of its beak, ripping into a rotten branch probably looking for wetas (king crickets) and the like. An uncommon sight in the wild in mainland locations.
