New Zealand Dabchick /Weweia (Poliocephalus rufopectus) (Podicipedidae: Grebes) North Island, New Zealand

The New Zealand Dabchick is a small grebe endemic to the North Island of New Zealand. An uncommon bird with only a couple of thousand in existence, making it one of the world's rarest grebes. Birds were filmed in the crystal clear waters of Lake Tarawera near Rotorua. The volcanic lakes of the Rotorua area is a stronghold for this species.
