Royal Spoonbill (Platalea regia, Threskiornithidae: Ibis, Spoonbills, Christchurch, New Zealand)

The Royal Spoonbill is now well established in New Zealand. It apparently stared breeding in NZ in about 1949, having arrived from Australia, where it is a widespread endemic. Filmed on a dull day in the Heathcote/Avon estuary near Chistchurch on the South Island. Most are in breeding plumage. Australian birds can be seen at:
