Brown Quail (Synoicus ypsilophora, Phasianidae: Pheasants and Quail) North island New zealand
The Brown Quail is widespread in Australia, except for the most arid areas, and introduced to New Zealand, where it can be found in northern parts of the North Island. Usually a shy bird, that is difficult to approach. The birds filmed here, living in New Zealand on a predator free island nature reserve are much less timid than is usual and allow us a close inspection.
