New Zealand Tomtit (North Island ssp.) (Petrocia macrocephala toitoi, Petroicidae: Australasian robins)

The Tomtit is an Australasian 'robin' endemic to both main islands of New Zealand. It is often a very friendly bird and will come down to look at you as you pass through its territory. However it rarely stays in one place for long. The birds here were filmed in the centre of the North Island. The distinctive South Island subspeies can be seen at : vimeo.com/147154434
