New Zealand Dabchick /Weweia (Poliocephalus rufopectus) (Podicipedidae: Grebes)

The New Zealand Dabchick is a small grebe endemic to New Zealand and is now found only on the North Island, bar a pair recently found in the north of the South Island. An uncommon bird with only a couple of thousand in existence. Closely related to Australia's Hoary-headed Grebe see:
